The Alibi
How far would you go to save
what you love?
He’s handsome, charming, and the city’s beloved Lord Mayor. He’s also a cheating husband. But is he a killer?
When a surfer discovers the gruesome remains of council staffer Lauren Ellis in sand dunes just metres from Lord Mayor Andrew Ashley’s beachside home, rumours of his close relationship with the victim quickly begin to circulate.
Andrew’s secret affair with local newspaper reporter Elle Nolan is proof he can be an unfaithful husband – but is he also guilty of murder?
As the search for answers continues, Andrew refuses to tell police where he was the night of Lauren’s death.
When Andrew reaches out to Elle from police lock-up begging her to provide an alibi for the night in question, she quickly realises that instead of just reporting the story, she’s about to become irrevocably entangled in it.
What a fun and twisty thriller! I have enjoyed other books of Taylor’s in the past, as she is exceptional at creating crazy convoluted plots, but writing in her native Australian voice made this the strongest of the ones I have read

About The Alibi
The Alibi is a murderous love letter to my hometown of Newcastle, NSW, which explores the age-old battle of knowing when to hold on and when to let go of the things we love the most—with murder, betrayal, and a dead body thrown in of course.
The idea for The Alibi came about after my former partner was the last person to see (still) missing man Steven Fenwick on Stockton Beach and inevitably became a part of the investigation. While The Alibi is not about that specific case, it does begin with a body found on Stockton Beach and asks the question - what would you do if the person you love was accused of murder and asked you to be their alibi if they were the last person to see the victim alive and you don't know where they were the night in question.
Trav assisting SES crews at the entrance to Stockton Beach.
Newcastle readers will have the chance to meet Taylor at the upcoming Newcastle Writers Festival, where she will be In Conversation with Carol Duncan at The Press Book House on Saturday, 5 April at 11.30am.
Writing a book is hard, right..?
The writing itself is one thing but keeping a positive mindset, believing in yourself, and your work, can actually be the biggest struggle writers face.
Believe me, I get it!
So many authors suffer from:
Imposter Syndrome
Thinking no one will care about their book
A lack of support form family and friends
Being too self critical
Thinking they're not good enough
Believing no one will ever publish their book
I've been through it and I know how hard it can be to overcome your fears and insecurities. As writers we are often our own harshest critics. In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and say I believe many writers suffer high levels of self-doubt because of what we have been through in our lives.
I might be wrong, but writing comes from the heart, from the soul, and a lot of the time those of use who ache to write, do so because of the ache in our hearts.
The struggles we've been through, the heartache, the pain, the disappointments, the love that broke us, that's what makes us writers.
Unfortunately it's also what causes self doubt.
But a lot of the time, when it comes to writing, our fears are completely unfounded.
If we want to make our dreams come true and show those who doubted us just how great we actually are, we have to be brave. We have to be courageous and daring.
I used to have the same fears and it held me back for a long time. Past mistakes and bad choices had me believing no matter what I did it would never be good enough - and you know what...
Writing a book with that belief actually made my worst fears come true.
I didn't try my best, I rushed it, I didn't give it the love and devotion it deserved. Why? Because no one was really going to care anyway, right? No one would read it...
The best thing that happened was when a bunch of reviewers showed just how much they did care by saying en mass that my book sucked. In fact, they all specifically said it was obvious no care had been put into developing my characters - and you know what? They were dead right.
The feeling I had when I read those reviews was like a knife in my heart because I knew I could do better - if I dared to actually believe in myself.
Easy to say, not so easy to do...
That's why I wrote down everything I did to build my confidence enough to go back, sit down, and actually try my best.
See, not really trying is great excuse to keep in your pocket just in case your book gets bad reviews. After all, if we try our best and it doesn't work out - where do we go from there?
I know it can be scary to open your heart and try your best, not knowing what the outcome might be. But if we don't, the outcome is already set. You will fail, just like I did, and believe me that is not a feeling you will enjoy.
If you are ever going to succeed, the first person to believe in you - has to be you.
I cannot stress that enough. Forget everyone else. Believe in yourself. Only you know what you are capable of when you pull out all the stops and do your very best.
And that's why I wanted to make this course COMPLETELY FREE...
I want you to succeed.
AND YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BY GIVING THIS A TRY BECAUSE IT IS COMPLETELY FREE.
There's no up-sell at the end or products I want you to buy.
Nothing at all.
At the completion of your free course you will feel:
Confident about completing your book
Emotionally ready to take the next step toward publishing
Ready to back yourself and your work no matter what anyone else says
Grateful you are able to pursue your goals
Clear on what was holding you back and how to overcome your fears
Able to quiet the voices in your mind that undermine your confidence
So take the opportunity while you can to learn as much as possible and start working on creating the self confidence you need to write that book and show everyone what a kick-arse author you actually are!!!
