The Alibi
How far would you go to save
what you love?
He’s handsome, charming, and the city’s beloved Lord Mayor. He’s also a cheating husband. But is he a killer?
When a surfer discovers the gruesome remains of council staffer Lauren Ellis in sand dunes just metres from Lord Mayor Andrew Ashley’s beachside home, rumours of his close relationship with the victim quickly begin to circulate.
Andrew’s secret affair with local newspaper reporter Elle Nolan is proof he can be an unfaithful husband – but is he also guilty of murder?
As the search for answers continues, Andrew refuses to tell police where he was the night of Lauren’s death.
When Andrew reaches out to Elle from police lock-up begging her to provide an alibi for the night in question, she quickly realises that instead of just reporting the story, she’s about to become irrevocably entangled in it.
What a fun and twisty thriller! I have enjoyed other books of Taylor’s in the past, as she is exceptional at creating crazy convoluted plots, but writing in her native Australian voice made this the strongest of the ones I have read

About The Alibi
The Alibi is a murderous love letter to my hometown of Newcastle, NSW, which explores the age-old battle of knowing when to hold on and when to let go of the things we love the most—with murder, betrayal, and a dead body thrown in of course.
The idea for The Alibi came about after my former partner was the last person to see (still) missing man Steven Fenwick on Stockton Beach and inevitably became a part of the investigation. While The Alibi is not about that specific case, it does begin with a body found on Stockton Beach and asks the question - what would you do if the person you love was accused of murder and asked you to be their alibi if they were the last person to see the victim alive and you don't know where they were the night in question.
Trav assisting SES crews at the entrance to Stockton Beach.
Newcastle readers will have the chance to meet Taylor at the upcoming Newcastle Writers Festival, where she will be In Conversation with Carol Duncan at The Press Book House on Saturday, 5 April at 11.30am.
